Friend: “Where is your post?”
Friend: “Or am I bothering you? Lemme know so I will back off if I am.”
Me: You’re not bothering me. Told you that I have nothing…”
Me: “I’ve got a lot weighing on me right now…too overwhelmed…can’t think.”
Friend: “Then write about it and write something to inspire cuz maybe a lot of us feeling overwhelmed.”
Like many other people at the start of a new year, I decided that I would fast. Most people abstain from food and drink in order to divert their attention to spiritual nourishment instead. Over time, I’ve learned that fasting from whatever one would consider sacrificial is comparable. Therefore, I’ve spoken to people that have fasted from social media, television, certain types of music, other people, places, etc. My fast this New Year was from crutches and excuses. For twenty-one days, I was just going to do whatever it was that I set out to accomplish. I really didn’t know what would happen during this time, but I was open to what God would unveil. Unexpectedly over the course of twenty-one days, I encountered the same scripture on four separate occasions: once while I was studying, once through some random post on a site that I stumbled upon, once while reading a book, and lastly as a visitor at a church that I randomly selected to attend one Sunday morning. At the end of the month, I told a friend of mine that it had to be a coincidence that I happened upon the same scripture four times in twenty-one days. “Everything happens for a reason,” she reminded me.
Perhaps that reason is for me right now because I feel like so much is weighing on me or maybe it is for YOU because you feel so overwhelmed. So, here it is…I pray that it sparks, it ignites, and it speaks to you!
Hebrews 12:1 “therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witness, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
